I am having to supply a few of our product catalogs on our website, so people can download them but we don't want them to be able to edit them. Is there a way to password protect the files or make them read only???

Password protection would be the ideal way if its possible.

Cheers

If you put indd files on your site, you should zip it anyway. There are tools to set password protection on zip files.
Another way would be to attach the files to a PDF and protect that. PDFs can even be aimed at specific receivers if you have their public key.

If you're asking if you can supply uneditable InDesign files, the answer
is no.

Why would you want to supply catalogs on the website in InDesign format at all? Only another InDesign user would be able to open them, which is a very small part of the user universe.
