It is possible to assign a spot color to an imported EPS file (that is black) so that it prints separations?
In PageMaker, you could assign a spot color to an EPS file. It did not show correctly on screen, but did print to the assigned spot color separation.
I cant seem to get this to work in InDesign. It will only print on the black plate.

No. Edit the EPS in Illustrator or rasterize in Photoshop as grayscale.

Another option is to copy your EPS in Illustrator and paste it into InDesign. Then you can click on it and change the colors to whatever you want. If you're frequently changing the colors of it (trying out lots of different versions for example) that's faster than continuously editing in Illustrator (though in general it's better to import files than paste them in).
