Does anyone know home to create a top to bottom gradient for text?

For objects such as squares I simply rotate it 90* after applying the gradient swatch.

For text, this seems to be a bit of a challenge.

I was looking for a degree attribute like there is in Corel for gradients, but there doesn't seem to be one.

With the text selected, use the gradient tool and drag it across the text in
the direction you want the gradient to run.

Tracy,

There is a simple way to do this, the secret is keeping the text selected with the text tool.

Select your text and click that little gradient button you click for the boxes you've done. Then, open the gradient palette (WINDOW menu, GRADIENT). On that palette, you should have all the options you need for a gradient (including a degree of angle box).

Pure gradient bliss!! ;)

3 steps:

1. Make a gradient swatch in your Swatches palette

2. With text selected, click the gradient apply button for the fill of the text

3. Pick up the gradient tool and drag over the selected text in any direction you wish. Short stroke makes rapid transition. Long stroke makes soft transition.

InDesign gradients are a 3-step dance.

So is there a method to this for exact degree for the gradient?

I know if I use my Shift key I can get exact degree by increments of 45, but what if I wanted a gradient to be set at lets say 37 degree?

You can define gradient angle in the gradient tool. What might be simpler
would be to draw a rule, set its angle with the Transformation palette, drag
the gradient tool along it, and then delete the rule.

Display the gradient pallet.
In the pallets flyout menu, click show options
You now have the angle box displayed
select the text with the gradient applied and adjust the angle
