Hi! After exporting a file to EPS, we receive an ps-error while ripping:
%%[ Error: typecheck; OffendingCommand: setglobal ]%%
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%

"setglobal" only occurs in the file inside the Adobe CoolType Ressources.

As i understand, using "setglobal" inside EPS-Files is a big no-no.

Any solution? The only solution sofar is to open the EPS in Illustrator (10) and saving it again.

SOLUTION:

Replace the InDesign CoolType.dll (Version 4.10.8.1) in the InDesign directory with the older one coming with Illustrator 10 (Version 4.9.17.1).

Rename the original one to *.orig if you like.

Update:

Doesn't work 100%... hope Adobe will fix this soon (maybe with 2.0.2).

Michael--

What RIP are you using? I can't think that replacing the CoolType DLL is a safe/sane workaround!<g>

Odd. You're right, "setglobal" is not intended to be used in an EPS. Perhaps one of the Adobe engineers could comment on this?

BTW, are you by chance using a level one RIP?

[Edit: I see Ole beat me to it!]

There is a proper use for setglobal in EPS files.
If you have the red book handy, look at table G.1 on p 802.
setglobal is defined as 'careful', meaning that you can use it with appropiate precautions.

On page 10 of the EPS Spec (Tech Doc #5002, 1 May 1992) it lists "setglobal" as an operator that must not be used in an EPS file.

I see now, in looking over my PS spec that you are correct, too. Do I have an obsolete EPS spec, or are the two contradictory?

Well, I seem to have the last version (Version 3) EPS spec, so there apears to be a discrepancy between the two. Thanks to Rik for pointing it out.

Apparently, the ID development team went by the PS language reference in this case.

Hopefully Michael will get back to us on what RIP he is using.

Gang--

For whatever it's worth, the current Adobe PostScript drivers break the current PPD specification, too. (In a really bad way, in my opinion: the "include" keyword stops working. Not to mention that they're tightly bound to a given PPD. This seems retarded to me, but whatever....)

It's most likely that Michael is using a clone RIP created by someone who actually followed the spec to the letter. The question is how to work around it.

Thanks,

Ole
