I am currently using ID CS4 and using the previous ID CS2 files ( plan to convert to ID CS4 format). When I tried to print or convert to pdf, it propted an error: There is overtext on these pages: 1.

But it did not indicate which text is overtexted. So I could not figure out which text is the problem. How can I detect overtext when the error pop up? James

It's only one page...look for the overset indicator.

Is small red box with "+" sign inside overset indicator?
If so, how can I fix overtext?
When I looked around the area, I do not see anything wrong about it.

If you click inside the text frame with overset text and hit Ctrl-Y
to open the story editor, you will see what is overset at the
bottom. If there's no text obviously missing, it may only be an
extra empty paragraph or two or even just the end of story marker,
in which case all you have to do is backspace from the end of story
marker ('#') to the end of the story and the overset should
disappear. Close the Story editor window when you're done.

It's often the width of the textbox, just a margin too small. So widen it.

Thank you for your tip. Ctrl-Y opened a dialog box (story). At the bottom of the story, there was a red vertical line with an overset box with text. I do not see any missing of text at all.

marker ('#') to the end of the story

That means that I should place a # at the end of story. Then, what? The opened box (by Ctrol-Y) does not have "save" mode. Do simply placing # at the of the story and the subsequent closing of the overtext box solves the overtext problem? James

No. The End of story marker will always be there - you can't delete
it, and you can't insert one. It's the last character in the story,
so anything between the [the full stop at the] end of your text and
the EOS marker is extraneous and should be deleted. You often get
extra empty paragraphs there, particularly if the text was
originally imported from, say, Word or an e-mail. I don't quite
understand what you mean when you say 'an overset box with text.'
What is overset is shown by a vertical bar in the Story editor - if
all your text is present in the layout, there shouldn't be any after
the vertical bar except, as I say, empty paragraphs or perhaps
spaces. Deleting stuff in the Story editor has just the same effect
as deleting it in Layout view, so there's no need for a special
'Save' function in the story editor. It's just an alternative,
uncluttered view that some find it easier to edit text in.

So, do as I said in my last post - place your cursor at the end of
the story in Story editor, then *backspace* to the end of your text.
The Overset markings should disappear, and you can just close the
Story editor window. The little red box with the '+' sign should
also have disappeared when you return to Layout view, showing that
there's nothing overset.

If your 'overset box with text' is something else, it could be an
inline object, a table or something of the sort. Could this be the
case? If so, then it probably got there by accident, when you say
that there's no text missing from your layout. Could you take a
screenshot of the bottom of the story in Story editor and post it at
pixentral.com? We'd then be able to see what it is you're talking
about.
