I understand the workaround for this pagination. I would put it into printer spreads directly but would prefer for ID to do SOME of the work.
Here are my questions:
• Since ID (at least in CS2) honors the color profiles of any embedded PDF, how do we best color manage embedded PDF files? Is it OK to embed a PDF in a PDF as Bob suggests?
• Assuming we are using a synchronized suite color profile, can we be sure that, for instance, Illustrator files embedded in ID using spot colors and transparency, will be able to separate correctly in ID.
• What if we copy and paste from AI to ID with spot colors and transparency? Will that separate correctly and be correctly color managed?
• What if we also have images that need not necessarily be tied to the AI file but must be placed in the final document in ID? What if these are PS duotones? Will they be correctly color managed as a PDF within a PDF?
What I am getting at here is not just an effective way to work around the layout issue with a calendar, but the correct way to deal with color management and to work effectively between applications.
My initial experiments suggest that when constructed correctly, the AI elements with transparency and spot colors WILL separate correctly whether placed or pasted. There are, however, significant differences in how they can be manipulated in ID. I'd just like to hear some alternate viewpoints!
Thanks for the insights!
