Based partly on positive comments on this forum, I just installed an iProof Systems PowerRIP X at a customer site. Installation went well, and the out-of-the-box color management is reasonably good. It works fine printing from InDesign 2.0.2, and Acrobat 6 Professional, but seems to crash the RIP with any page from InDesign CS. The message in the print queue on the server is:

"can't create PictWPSDoc from '/private/var/spool/cups/d00018-001'. Error during execution of pictwpstops Error number -9783"

Is anyone here successfully printing from InDesign CS to the iProof RIP?

Thanks...

Hi there,

I know that this is no help at all, but I am just writing to say that I have the exact same problem, with the exact same error message. I noticed that in the print dialog in the Summary section, it shows the ppd as normal (in my case PowerRIP X Epson Photo 1290) but also then has 'PPD File' which links to something else in the system. This is not the same in InDesign 2, so I wondered if it is something to do with this? Sorry this is no help - but I'm stuck too!

Actually, it is helpful to know that the problem may not just be an isolated one. I'll call iProof Systems tech support. Thanks.

I still use the 9 version of the RIP for production, but I had tested the OSX version with CS a few weeks ago ( on 10.2.8 ) and didn't have any problems. I went back and printed a more complex file today and got the cups error. It looks like it occurs with converted files. If I restart ID and build a file from scratch everything prints fine.

That's interesting, Rob. In my case, it seems to error on any page. I should also have mentioned that this is under Panther 10.3.2 on both client and "server."

Not that it helps much, but how about if you quit ID, restart and build something from scratch. In my brief testing the error occured with any file once a converted file was open葉he only way I could get a print was to restart and build a new file.

Hi,

I am also running 'Panther', but version 10.3.1, and I have the same problem. It also happened to me using a new ID CS file (not converted), even printing just text.

I just spoke with iProof tech support, and they think the problem has been fixed in a core RIP update they just received. I was told that Version 7.11 should be out sometime this week, and will hopefully fix the problem.
