InDesign2.02 running in Jaquar. Quotation Marks print on my Laser Printer. Comas and Periods print. Apostrophes will not print. Any ideas as to why not? (Apostrophes print OK in Word and Appleworks)

I have the same problem in ID 2.0.1...any font. No apostrophes print (right single quotes). This always happens after converting Pagemaker files to ID. I have have a Laserwriter 8500 printer. I'm running OS 10.2.1.

One fix I found was to to a Find/Change. I found all the right quotes (selected from the drop-down menu) and replaced them with an apostrophe. After doing that, it all prints properly.

Printer HP LaserJet 2100M
InDesign

So far, apostrophes DO NOT print in Times Roman or Helvetica.
I just tried Chicago and the apostrophes DO print.

All of the above print apostrophes in Word and Appleworks.

Sounds like bad fonts. Where did they come from? I recall something about Microsoft issuing some bad fonts recently that had this problem.

No idea. I'm simply dredging something up from my memory about MS issuing bad fonts recently. Someone else is complaining about the same thing in a different thread right now.

Wish I could be more specific.

Dave, If fonts are at fault, why would apostrophes print in MS Word and Appleworks/

Thanks, Steve. I just couldn't remember the details.

What Dave was referring to is Times New Roman and Arial which were issued with one of the Office for Mac packages (Office 2001?) were buggy and didn't print apostrophes to PostScript 3 RIPs. They have posted some new fonts on their Web site.

It must be something font related. Text in some of my custom designed fonts prints with apostrophe in all programs except InDesign. (ID 2.0, OS 9.2.x)

Try putting the font directly in the InDesign Fonts folder.

Thanx to all who answered. I found that my Times Roman font did not print apostrophes in InDesign (although it did print in Word).

But, my Times RomanPS MT font does print in InDesign.
So the solution is just don't use the offending font.

Someone in an earlier thread noted that if you check "download pdf fonts" in the graphics portion of the print dialog box, it will fix the problem. It worked for me.

Hiya

Have you switched on Typographer's quotes?

InDesign Preferences/Type

Cheers
