You can. Use the Direct Selection tool (hollow arrow) to select the >content< of the picture's frame, not the frame itself. Then you can recolor the picture.

Hi,

How do you change the color of a placed 1-bit tiff file?

I can change the box it's in and the stroke on the box it is in but I can't color the .tif file itself!

Quark does this easily enough. Help!!!

I have had the same problem. In 2.0 when I select the graphic content with the direct selection tool, the swatches are greyed out and unavailable. I know I am missing something basic but can't figure it out.

One thing is to make sure your swatch palette is set to fill and not stroke. That threw me a time or two until I figured it out.

I've noticed this graying out behavior sometimes as well. To overcome the problem, just click away from the content with the Direct Selection tool and then re-select it. This usually works for me.
