How do I get rid of those damn boxes around URLs that appear in text? The only way I've found is to apply a no paragraph style and then reapply the body copy style. I would like to get rid of them for good. There must be a better way.

What feature in InDesign produces these and how -- if I ever wanted to use them -- would I create them around a piece of text?

You can even select all the hyperlinks in the palette, and delete them.

You should be able to select the URL in the Hyperlinks palette and double-click it to bring up the hyperlink options. Then change Appearance to Invisible Rectangle.

Not sure where the preference is if you are automatically getting URLs in imported or typed text added to the palette, though; I have to manually click New Hyperlink with the URL selected. I'm sure it's around here someplace...

Thanks guys. You just made my life a little easier. I kept looking in the book index under URL or something similar. Guess it pays to keep up with terminology.

Is there a way to set the default so that any new copy being imported , doesn't get the hyperlink style?

That question I'm stumped on. I do not get these by default, either with typed or placed text. Don't see a preference that would control this. Are you importing plain text and getting these? Do they show up if you just type a URL?
