I've tried a few ideas and nothing works. I need to convert a letter like "A" into a dashed line "A", it keeps giving me a dashed outline of the "A" instead of a single dashed line.
Any suggestion would be great. Thanks..

Chris,
You can't make a single line into an A, unless you do it freehand as you would write it. Letters are not single lines with a stroke, but are paths around a fill.

You can only apply a dash to a path. In Ill, the path (stroke) is on the outside of the font, hence dashed outline. In order to get what you want, I believe that you are going to need to draw the letters with the pen tool and apply the dashed stroke that you want.
