I am trying to save an AI file (12' x 3') to an EPS. I keep getting the following message. "Can't save the Illustration. There isn't enough memory. ID = - 108"
I'm running Windows 2000 and I deal with files larger than this all the time.
Is it an Illustrator bug?

i've gotten this error before - i'm not sure how i fixed it but after closing re-saving the ai file under a different ai name - and closing all norton apps - rebooting - deleting the old ai file (make sure you saved as) - then it worked - go figure ;)

I continually have the issue that Tracey refers to. The only workaround I have is to print to a postscript printer as a file, modifying the printer postscript settings to EPS before printing. This doesn't give me a preview image however, which is inconvenient when laying out a document.

Sure seems like a bug to me.

Tracey:

From another User: I can't say this is the solution for everyone, but in my file I zoomed out to 3% and did a "select all." Turns out, there was a placed object on my file that was off of the document (in the gray area). This was what was causing the problem, although I still don't know how it got there. The lesson is that "memory -108" isn't really a memory problem. I actually saw a post in another thread where someone said the same thing. It's more of a general "I don't know what to do, maybe it's memory.." problem that the app spits out. In this specific instance, my guess is that the EPS component couldn't generate the EPS preview file because part of the image was off the drawing area. Like I said, I was able to save with preview turned to "None.

Ian,
Terrific tip. I zoomed out and found all sorts of stuff outside the artboard. Copying the desired artwork to a clean file did the trick. I can now save to EPS, even with an 8 bit preview. Thanks very much.

Thank you all for your replies.

When saving as an EPS I made sure that the preview was set on NONE and then had no problems!!!

Funny little quirk.

I do large format graphics in Illustrator and I used to encounter this problem a lot.

I found that by setting the 'Preview' (in the Save-As EPS settings) to 'None', that I could save an EPS file, no matter how large, without receiving that error.

This has worked 100% of the time. The trade-off is that you don't get a file preview, but you will be able to save your file.
