Unknown Error [PARM]

I have just started getting an error notice when editing several selected objects. Eg select>same>appearance and change the fill colour, it reports

"The operation could not complete because of an unknown error [parm]" and after clicking out of that it does what I asked. Then when clicking to unselect it says "An error occurred whilst processing the appearance of an object"

Only started happening today.

Any advice what to do about it? I already tried the shift/alt/ctrl start up and again after deleting the preferences file.

Did you check your objects? I could imagine that one of them has an ambiguous appearance and/ or duplicate entries which throw things off track. Perhaps some stroke lingering somewhere that you don't use or so...

Goodness me! How would I check an object and what am I checking it for?
