Hi can somone help me with this? I have just upgradded to AI 10.0.2 and when i save my graphic files it seams to create a .tmp file in the same folder as the original file. When i double click on the tmp file it opens in illustrator no prob and looks like the original file only with another name like AI12345.tmp. Its completly arbitrary it happens somtimes and other times it wont i cant isolate the reason.

What could this be and why is it doing it? How do i stop it? i dont want these extra files.

I am using windows 2000 service pack 2

Nat,

Make sure you set a scratch drive in your preferences - then all
Illustrator's temp files will be created there. It needs them - you can't
switch it off

Hi Len thanks for the help, I checked the sctratch disks and they are set. Primary is set to startup the other to my C:/ drive. I have changed both to My C:/. I will see if that fixes it.

Thanks

I have adjusted the scratch disks and Illustrator is still creating the tmp files. Could they have somthing to do with the work group preferences. Its frustrating because i dont get this problem on my mac at home just the pcs i work on at work. My pc is a 1.7 Ghz pentium with 20 gig hard drives and plenty of ram. So it should be good enough to run illustrator 10.0.2. Ussually if a program creates a file to use for its own use it puts it in a working folder somplace. Not the folder the file originated from. And shouldnt illustrator deleate it after its not working on it. This has the potential to really clog up my work space with files i dont want or need or use.
