I am using Adobe Illustrator 9.0. I have document created in Illustrator in english. I am trying to replace the english text by russian and it is not working. I am trying to copy Russian text from a Word document and paste it into Adobe Illustrator 9.0 to replace the english text. I get question marks pasted in the document instead of the actual Russian characters. I have tried to copy from word and paste it in notepad and it is not working either. Would you have a solution for this problem? In my languages options in Illustrator I don't have the russian language could that be a problem? I am able to write text in Russian in the AI document...but cannot copy and paste it from my word document.
Help! :o)
thank you
Enrico
Remember that text is ASCII and to make it look like the original in Illustrator, you have to have the same font that was used. But if it's a Russian language you won't be able to use it unless you have Russian language Windows. If it's a Russian/Cyrillic font (such as Symbol) with English Windows, and you have that on your system, you should be able to get it into Illustrator.

I did this for a friend a while ago. If I remember correctly, I was able to paste the text into InDesign 2.0 because it has far superior support for Unicode fonts.
I set the type in several Unicode fonts, converted to outlines within InDesign, then exported to EPS. I was then able to work with the outlines (paths) in Illustrator.
If you don't have InDesign, and if the Word document is not too large, I would be happy to take a crack at it. (I don't have that many Unicode fonts, but I can give you a few choices.)
