Every time I try to move objects, I get the following error message: Can't move the objects. The requested transformation would make some objects fall completely off the drawing area. Is there something simple that I'm missing here?

Martin,

does it happen to every object you move? Try creating a new empty file, putting a rectangle in it and moving it: does the error appear?

If it keeps popping up, you may want to delete your AIPREFS file. If you don't know what it is, how to find it and how to delete it - search the forum for the word aiprefs.

Nope. It only happens with the file that I'm working in. I created a new file and the rectangle moved without issue. It is when I try to move the entire image (CNTRL A) that I get that message. I dunno what the deals is...

Martin,

Ctrl-A is the key. You didn't mention it in your previous post.

Unzoom all the way till you see ALL the board space available (surrounded by some gray cosmic emptyness). Do Ctrl-A and see where the bounding box of the selection is. Chances are, there're some objects out of the Artboard that you don't see while working at the page scale. Delete these object and life will become much easier :)

Thanks from me as well. There was one tiny speck that was on that layer allllll the way to left. I deleted it and it can be moved now.

I had this same issue. I just saved the illustrator file as a pdf, closed
the file and opened the pdf file I just saved and I was able to move the
art.

Alexander Kogan's solution worked for me.

Someone had sent me some artwork I had to update...

I selected all, then zoomed out as much as possible (3.13%) and found objects far away from the actual artwork. These objects were making my objects on the artboard much 'bigger' and hence hindering its movement because the software thought the artwork was off the artboard which it was with these random bits included.

Thanks,

JAC
