Did you ever find an answer to this problem beyond this? Surely its possible. I have the same issue.

When you hit "ENTER" in vertical text, it starts the next word to the left of the last work. There has to be a way to make it start the next word to the right of the last one instead. Surely?

I totaly forgot about this problem, and you reminded me of it. Actually there are two ways I could think of:

1. Draw a number of parallel, vertical, equidistant lines. Those lines will be vertical rows of text. The easiest way I could think of is using a Rectangular Grid tool. Set the number of vertical dividers, or use cursor keys. You do not need horizontal lines, just vertical ones. After you've drawn rectangular grid, do Ungroup and delete frame around lines. The meaning of this is to delete horizontal lines on top and bottom, just to have vertical ones.

2. Using Vertical Type tool or Vertical Type on a Path tool, click on the first line from the left.
3. Type what you want, or Copy > Paste the text.
4. You will get an red "+" sign at the bottom. Click on it and you will get a "loaded cursor" that contains overflow text.
5. Just click at the top of the next line to the right.
6. Do this again and again untill all text is shown.
7. This way make vertical lines of text that are connected and you can freely do changes, text will reflow if necessary.
8. If you want to increase or decrease distance of these lines of text, use Align pallete > Distribute Spacing > Allign to key object option turned on. Than put the desired spacing in the box next to it, and press Horizotnal Distribute Space button next to it.

The other way is this using Type > Area Type Options..., and option Text Flow turned to vertical, but I find it more difficult and time consuming, so I do not recommend it.

Cheers,
Branko

1. Characters Palette: Set Character Rotation to 90 degrees.
2. LineTool: ShiftDrag a vertical line, downward.
3. TextOnAPathTool: Click the top of the path. Type some text.
4. Black Pointer: AltShiftDrag a copy rightward.
5. Transform Again (Ctrl-D) for as many lines as desired.
6. Marquee select across them all. Type>ThreadedTex>Create.
7. Edit the text as desired.
