"You must click on a non-compound, non-masking path to create text along a path."
Sorry if this is a noobie question but I don't really use Illustrator.
When you say an "arced path", how was this path created? Do you simply mean a path that looks like an arc, or do you mean a path created with the Arc Tool, or do you mean a path that has an Arc Warp effect applied to it, or an Arc envelope distortion?
If you are using Illustrator 9 or later, you can select your arced path, and find it in the Layers palette. This will help you determine whether it is part of a compound shape, compound path, envelope, or other compound structure. The Document Info palette can also be useful in this regard.
The Object>Compound Path>Release, Object>Clipping Mask>Release, and Object>Expand commands can be used to break up unwanted compound structures into separate elements.
I am using Illustrator 9 and the path is not yet created but I want to have the text follow along the curved endge of a shape I made in PS7. The words "Computer Training" will be part of a logo.
Thanks again! I will try what you suggested because right now the text looks pretty sloppy the way I did it in PS7.
