Why does the stationary header created in Illustrator print blurry when it's imported into a MS word doc?

What file type are you saving as to import into Word? PNG is the standard format.

It's saved as an illustrator eps. There are only three options to choose from when saved as. Illustrator, Illustrator EPS and a PDF.

Petice,

If you print to postscript it should be fine. When you don't print to postscript the EPS uses the low res screen view.

That's great but what does that mean? I'm a complete novice in Illustrator and I need to know exactly how to do what you're telling me.

Thanks

Petice:

You should only use EPS format if your printer supports PostScript -- most home/small office printers do not. Try using the PDF format. Unfortunately, MS Office products don't always play nicely with high-end graphics applications.

Petice, what version of Illy are you using?

If you are using CS then go to File>Save for MS Office.

If you are using 10 go to File>Save for Web and choose PNG.

There are plenty of other formats you can save as other than those you listed:

Just go to File>Export. A 300dpi tiff will give better results that the eps (but it will create a large file).

The beauty of the PNG is that not only does it print nicely and it is a small file size, but it also displays very nicely on screen.

Unfortunately I'm using an old version 8 that I've never used before. Had it in a box for years probably. The TIFF worked beautifully. Thanks.

If your Illustrator file is all vectors, you might want to try exporting as EMF (Enhanced Metafile). It's not my first choice either, but it's the only format I found that remains a vector when you bring it into Word. (I've tried importing EPS files, and Word seems to rasterize them instantly.)

Otherwise, I agree that PNG is the way to go.

Actually, I've found that converting texts to outlines, and using standard Copy / Paste from Illustrator to Word works great - it comes into Word as vector art, and whilst a bit ugly onscreen due to no antialiasing, it prints fantastically and can be resized as only vectors can :)
