There are third party options, CADgate is available at
http://www.hotdoor.com/CADgate/
I don't know anything about MemTurbo but it sounds like something Adobe
programs would hate. If you have a file that zips reasonably you can send it
to me and I'll see if I can open it.

I have been able to open dwg files successfully---all being from autocad release 14. don't know if that matters.

On a few occassion, if the drawing was too big to open---i plot it to an eps file and open the eps file in illustrator. not as convenient because it puts all objects on teh same layer...but it works none the less....

I have been trying for months to open dwg files in Illustrator 10. We have done everything to clean up the dwg drawings, i.e., purging, fewer layers, no hatching, delete frozen layers, exploding, not exploding, diagnosing problems in the file in AutoCAD, you name it and unless the dwg file is very very small with 3 to 5 layers it will not open in Illustrator and even some of the small drawings will not open. I get an error message that is not explicit or I get a message that there is not enough RAM to open the file. I have MemTurbo so when I get this message I am showing 500 - 550 in Ram - so this message is not true. I thought Illustrator 10 was capable of opening dwg and dxf files. Is there any other third party software that might help? I am very frustrated at this point.
