When I try to save some fonts I get things like: TimesNewRomanPSMT: An unkown problem occured I even have that problem with Bell, Harrington and other common fonts. Not to mention having problems embedding fonts becuase they are protected.
When I try to open some files I get " Can't open the illustration... does not have the correct number operands for operator... offending operator "Tf"... TP -67.8631 0 Td 0 Tr 0 O 000 1k /_Monday-(sRB) 97.3941 83.698 - 13.7912Tf
Any ideas? Thank you, Ann
Also, with some fonts that are protected, you cannot embed. So you save a copy of the original file, then convert the text to outlines (Select all, then click TYPE/CREATE OUTLINES) and save the file or export it or print it to PDF etc. The advantage of converting text to outlines is that the ad will look the same on both platforms PD and Mac, but the disadvantage is that you cannot edit the text. (Hence you must save a copy of the original file.)
Fonts are handled by Windows or by Adobe Type Manager depending on the varieties you have. You don't say what Windows you're using. I strongly recommend Adobe Type Manager Deluxe 4.1 (not the lite version) to install and manage ALL your fonts.
I recommend that you have only 100 or so fonts installed and active at one time as a test -- that's a Windows 9x issue. But I've seen problems when using many fonts under newer Windows as well. Remember that roman, bold, italic and bold-italic are four "fonts". You can install thousands of fonts and have them available but "inactive" by using Adobe Type Manager Deluxe 4.1 to create "font packs" which you switch in and out as necessary. That way you have all the fonts you need without also slowing down every Windows operation involving typography.
QualiType Software has another font utility called Font Handler at www.qualitype.com. Bitstream also had a font manager called Font Navigator and I believe a version of Bitsream's utility shipped with CorelDRAW! However Bitstream have withdrawn this in favour of another program, Font Reserve There is also Suitcase for Windows, from Extensis
Check ALL your fonts. For TrueType fonts use Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Fonts and see if they were installed and display correctly. For Type One fonts use Adobe Type Manager Deluxe to check that the Type Ones were installed and display correctly. If any are corrupted, remove and replace from the original disks.
If the list is wrong or out of order it may be because there are many, many broken TrueType fonts out there with the wrong script in them. The font list is sorted first by script type, and then by font name.
