"Rendering Artwork" freeze

I'm doing a 3D pie chart with extrude and bevel, and I need to use a round bevel. But if I use a round bevel, or a tall round bevel, it freezes during the "rendering artwork" screen.
I've deleted my aiprefs file, closed all other programs, and even upgraded my video card! And I still can't get it to stop freezing! I really need a rounded bevel: not a classic or a tall rounded. Please help!!!

Happens frequently. The 3D effects in Illustrator can best be described as Beta. They often hang when rendering and can produce hideous artifacts when using bevels.
The simpler the shapes, the better. Also try changing the bevel position from to outside or inside, whichever you're not using. I'm also more partial to the rounded bevel at the bottom of the Bevels menu, which I think is the Tall Rounded you referred to.
