My operating system is Windows XP Home.

I am not certain if this question belongs in this forum or in the Illustrator forum.

I recently purchased a font from Adobe named "Bickham Script Standard." In addition to the upper case, lower case and numeral symbols, there are various letter additions and ornaments. We purchased the font especially for these ornaments.

I am not able to find the set of ornaments when I use the font in Illustrator. I can use the upper, lower case and numerals, but cannot find the ornaments.

When I open the Windows "Character Map", I can see the ornaments when I view the font in the Unicode Character set. But, when I select and then copy the character (or ornament) and paste it in Illustrator, I get a "?" I have made sure that I have the correct font selected in the "character window" in Illustrator. I can do the above procedure in MS Word with positive results, but not in Illustrator, or Macromedia Freehand.

In Windows "Character Map", the selected ornament shows a keystroke combination as most other fonts do. For instance, if I want to type a one-half fraction in most fonts, the keystroke is alt+0189 and the result is "½". But the keystrokes shown for these ornaments are like U+E00F. I do not know how to use this combination to make the ornament appear.

I want to be able to manipulate the ornaments in Illustrator by creating outlines and then use in InDesign. I thought I should be able to use an Adobe font in all of these Adobe products seamlessly.

Has anybody had a similar experience with characters in a font which do not appear as the typical upper, lower, and numerals? Or does anybody know how to use the Windows Character Map to accomplish what I have described?

I would really appreciate any help I can get!

Thank you,

Randall,

Illustrator does not have full support for Open Type fonts at present.
