In the layers palette, you can double click the layers to bring
up a dialog box where you can name the layer and choose a
selection colour. I do this a lot merely to change a yellow
selection colour which I find hard to see. Is there a way to tell
Illustrator CS never ever to default to yellow or it will be
grabbed and tortured terribly? Can this option be barred?

Hi there,

If I remember correctly, at least for older versions of Illustrator,
you can set up a custom document the way you want, measurements, size,
default settings including layer colors and save this in the default
file location that Illlustrator will use as the basis for all future
file creations.

But I haven't done this since probably Illustrator 7 or 8 - and 7 or 8
years ago at that!

Well, that is the sort of thing I guess... but not sure how one
would go about this. Some of my work has one layer, some two and
some 20 or more. Not sure how to tell Illus to make like it does
not use yellow for the layer selections.
