Dear PEOPLE:

I have wrote to you before and you were very helpful. I have read many of your books.

Heres another new problem I've been having with Illustrator 9.

Our company does a lot of charts in Illustrator then to Quark. That part is fine. But when will pull data out of charts to place in our Edgar filings the numbers round off.

What I mean is that sometimes when pulling data from graph data in Illustrator it rounds numbers off to 1 place.

Example:

100.08 112.11 2456.88 擁n graph data
100.1 112 .1 2457.9謡hen copied and pasted in new document.

Tried all options in chart menu as to how many decimal places. Still sometimes it rounds off.

I've asked around and nobody seems to know. It is just the way ILlustrator rounds, or is there a work around.

Thank you
Lazzaro Santella

This may be related to the fact that Illustrator will round off numbers input into palettes due to the size of the type in the palette input windows. Even though the returned data is imprinted as rounded off, the actual data on the graph may be correct to the hundredths, and even thousandths.

Check the graph itself for accuracy there. The only workaround I can think of is to ungroup the graph after it's done and retype the decimal places.

I think you can set your Preferences for how many decimal places out you want your numbers to display. You can also change the type after the graph is complete.

It seems when putting in data of say 33333.33, it changes it to 33333.4 on the data line. Is this something that has to do the way Illustrator is programmed. When copying to pasteboard to paste data in another program it reads 33333.4 instead of 33333.33.

Anybody have any ideas

simple solution: try to avoid exporting data from illustrator. keep the data in a seperate file with similar name as the illustrator-file:

mygraphfromtoday.ai
and
mygraphfromtoday.txt

THANK YOU MICHAEL:

WHEN PLACING DATA IN ILLUSTRATOR, I FIRST PUT DATE WITH DECIMAL POINTS IN EXCELL, BEFORE PUTTING IN ILLUSTRATOR.

THEN WHEN HAVE TO REMOVE PLOT POINTS FOR EDGAR, I USE THE EXCELL FILE.....IT WORKS FOR ME.

THANKS
