A friend at another company is producing all his artwork in VectorWorks Version 9.5.1 and placing images into this VectorWorks file. He can print it fine his end but I need to import his artwork into Adobe Illustrator 10 including the images he has placed into VectorWorks.

I was able to open the files he sent because he saved them to .eps format but he says to me there appears to be no opton to "Include Placed Images" So When I open the files in Illustrator all the pictures are missing but the vector artwork is fine. I could tell that it did not include the images as the file sizes were too small.

Can anyone help please. Is there a way of doing this?

BGH, are there X-boxes where the placed images should be? If so, can he send you the images for YOU to place from within AI?

Thanks for your reply.
There are no X boxes in the usual way or any indication in the .eps where the pictures should be. They are not even in the links pallet, It's empty. I could ask him to put boxes in the place of the pictures in order for me to be able to replace them with the correct pictures by hand. But I was hoping there was a better way as there are lots of pictures and this could take ages.

I'd have to ask him to post me print outs of the original file along with the images on CD so I could put them in the right places and crop or mask them if they needed it.

If I have to do this with every file he sends me it could soon become prohibitively expensive.
Thanks though if there weren't so many pictures and this was a one off that would have been a quick way round the problem.

I am thinking that he can embed the images. Or save them as a .dwg or .dxf.

Thanks for your post. He said to me he could not find any opton for embedding the images. But maybe saving them as .dwg or dxf files is another option I'll ask him to give it a go and see if either of these options include the images.

I don't think there will be an option to embed all he does is save the document. And even if there is no option why does he have to embed the images can't he collect them and send them along as linked files.

AutoCAD can link files. That is what it is all about.

Wade,
I'll ask him to look for the option to link the files again but he told me he couldn't find anything like that.
Is VectorWorks like AutoCAD He told me VectorWorks started life as Minicad.

Yes Vector Works was MiniCAD and I think it is easy to go back and forth from AI to VectorWorks. I use to have clients that have VectorWorks and actually may still have one.

Well at any rate VectorWorks I believe can include the image
as a part of the file.
