"plug-in" could not understand this file

Illustrator 13.0.2 | OS X 10.5.4 | Apple XServe

I keep getting this message when trying to open Illustrator files: "Could not read the file because the plug-in could not understand the file."

Randomly if I try 5 or 6 times it'll finally open. Sometimes not. I just opened one of the files in CS2, resaved with a different name, and successfully opened in CS3. Another person in the office still on OS X 10.4.11 has no problems opening the files in CS3.

This is really scary. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks very much.

Have you tried resetting your prefs? (see the FAQ section if you want to try this)
