Illustrator's native format also includes a PDF version of the file, which is necessary for import into InDesign or rasterization with Photoshop. If you have the font installed, it doesn't matter if it isn't embedded. If you're not using the file with another program, then you can either ignore the warning or turn of PDF compatibility when you Save As.

Some TrueType fonts have a bit in them that prevents embedding with Flash or PDF files.

Thanks,

I'll give that a try. Great advice.

Could your Adobe Futura (Type 1 ?) fonts be conflicting with another version of Futura that is on your System?

Try re-installing Futura from the original media and removing the Apple .dfont versions from your System.

I am working on a project using Futura fonts. This font has been purchased legally. I am suddenly getting a message about the Oblique version of this font when I try to save it, that the font "... could not be embedded in the PDF document..." Well, I'm not making a PDF, I'm just saving the AI file. It goes on to say that this is because of "licensing restrictions" which is a load of crap because the font was legally purchased and the Oblique version is the only one of about a dozen Futura styles that otherwise save just fine. What's up with that? Only the oblique style is criminal?

It then says "Stroked text will not be visible." Again, this is not true in the AI file, but when I place it in my InDesign document the text is replaced with a bunch of dots. So it is legal in AI but illegal in ID? Converting to outlines would be a work around, but that is grayed out for no obvious reason. So what am I to make of this schizophrenic behavior by Adobe? Sometimes my Futura is fine, sometimes it isn't. Nothing consistent. I'm using AICS version 1 and InDesign version 1 on a G5/2500 under 10.3.9. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Mike
