In Jaguar. We have a problem with Illustrator crashing on start up right when it says reading fonts. I've found that if I go to users>library>application support>Adobe>Fonts There's 2 file's called AdobeFnt05.lst & AdobeFnt06.lst. I've found that by trashing these Illustrator then starts fine. Why is this happining ? I'm on a Silver G4 Dual 1Gig 1 Gig ram with Jaguar. I use Font Reserve as my Font Managment Program. & AI 10.0.3 Any help would be great. Thanks. Dave.

This is a bug because Adobe has not released the necessary code yet. Make sure you have the latest FontReserve plugin aand save your files as .eps rather than native Illustrator files. That should do it. Opening older native files will still make it quit.

I dropped an email to the service people at FontReserve, after spending too damned much time isolating the problem and finding the plugin was the problem. They readily admitted the plugin is faulty, saying they will fix it as soon as they have access to the code.

Have a great holiday season, Dave.

davesurfsims... YOU ARE A GOD!

i've tried everything to work around this, as I haven't been able to use AI10.0.3 for two days now with a deadline LOOMING.

THANK YOU SIR.

I'm having a similar problem with Illustrator 10 crashing in and around the time that I'm opening files off of a clip art collection. Is it because AI 10 is balking at old *.eps files?

It opens them fine, but it will unexpectedly crap out and throw up an "error type 2" message. I was here looking for what "error type 2" was... from what it sounds like, it means "I'm too stupid to open files that I'm supposed to be able to open".

Am I understanding this right?

Here is the Font Reserve FAQ as of 1/2/03:

Is there a Font Reserve plug-in for Adobe Illustrator 10?

Font Reserve 3.1.1 includes a beta version of the plug-in for Adobe Illustrator 10. Users may experience problems re-opening files with auto-activation. The current workaround is to save the Illustrator file as Illustrator EPS format. We hope to release an update soon which fixes this problem.

I could not launch AI 10.0.3 until I removed the FR plugin and all the prefs. I then replaced the plugin and things seem to work. Haven't done any work yet though.
