Illustrator can open a DWG AutoCAD file, but unless it can adopt the existing DWG file scale (i.e. 1" in Illustrator = 50' in real life) it is of little use. For a drafting or landscape person to open and edit a file, the rulers need to show either the Illustrator inches or centimeters and then toddle to show the real life feet or meters.

For example, if you are working on a land scape drawing of a five acre parcel, you need to see the dimension of a landscape element (i.e. a tree) is 40' in dimeter. You also need to be able to size elements in their "in real life" dimensions or scale. So to scale the diameter of the tree or even a room in a building, you need to be able to enter 40'.

Lastly, when modifying the document setup, the height and width of the document (i.e. 36" x 24") needs to be available.

Being able to read DWG formats, requires supporting the basic functionality.

This is excellent I am surprised there are not more people here to agree and support you.

I too am of that opinion.
There are no more people simply because of the matches.
Silence is consistent.
I think no one is losing time to write what you already wrote.
