I use Illustrator less and less these days and am getting more and more used to the conventions of OSX. In most cases in OSX, command-H hides the active application. When I use that in illustrator, it hides edges and (is this new in 10?--it really confused me) hides text selection.

I can turn off the command-H hides edges, but the Keyboard Shortcuts... menu doesn't include the "Illustrator" menu, so I can't take the next step of making command-H hide Illustrator.

Frustrating.

At least there should be the option to assign Command-H to hide the app. Not being able to access the Illustrator menu is probably a Carbon issue that will hopefully be addressed in AI11.

I am also used to the convienience to using Command-H to hide Illustrator. Ya know, Apple has really strict guidelines as to following for Key Commands. Command-H to hide is new in OS X, but it's standard now! USE IT! I mean, Photoshop can use this convienience, why not Illustrator? What if I dont want to hide my edges? grrrrrr!!!!! Using universal key commands for certain functions improves workflow and I have to use less brain mush to remember commands and focus more on getting my work done, but why does Adobe do this to us? Grrr. It's so frustrating.

As a workaround you can use an automation utility like iKey from www.scriptsoftware.com where you can tell any app to hide with any user defined keyboard shortcut -- and much much more. (You can e.g. execute AppleScripts or menu commands as well.)

Update: Simply changing cmd-H to cmd-shift-H for Hide Edges enabled the cmd-H for Hide Illustrator in the Illustrator menu. Yes, it was *that* easy...

So I reiterate: windows users are supposed to change their habits?

Long time (Mac) users of Adobe products are supposed to change their habits?

Sounds like the cart pulling the horse.

No. Why? The Great Thing is, that you can decide for yourself what you want. It's an *option*, because you *can* modify the default Hide Edges shortcut -- but you don't have to if you don't want to.

Where's the problem? :)

Frustrations, frustrations!!! Does anyone from Adobe read this stuff? Who are those intellects in charge anyway? I personally think most of the issues should have already been taken care of simply out of logical thinking. Has anyone ever emailed a letter to a real person within the company and received a reply? I would like to know!
