Web Host Help?????

Hi

I'm posting from Australia as I want to start my own web site with my own domain name.

Do I have to find an Australian host? It's just that Australian hosts seem quite more expensive and offering less and there are less of them.

Can anyone recommend a host?

I don't want anything too fancy at the moment just a basic site, with my own domain name and a cgi bin to learn some forms, and then to upgrade if my site gets noticed.

Also what would you do in order to get your site noticed by the crawlers and how to help your site climb the ranks.

Any info at all.

Your host does not have to be in the same country that you live in. Mine is in the UK, although I live in Switzerland, for example. Most hosts conduct support via email, so time difference and phone costs shouldn't be a major issue.

As for host recommendations, that subject has been covered a few times recently, so you may wish to try a forum search.

I use <http://www.webhost4life.com>. $4.95/month, and you can use ASP and have access to an Access database. I think for $9.95 you can get SQL Server.

Not sure what you deem to be expensive, but check out
http://www.spiritconnect.com.au/

The Linux hosting plans are very cheap, and the basic one, for $10
(Australian) per month would give you what you are after. Domain
registration is $33 per year.
