Is it possible to insert a nonbreaking space or hyphen in the numbering for tables and figures? I'm using the method described in the FrameMaker 7 User Guide on page 122 (near the top of the page). I'd like the space between the word 'Figure' and the first number to be nonbreaking. The hyphen between the end of the section numbers and the figure number needs to be nonbreaking also.

Thanks.

Yes

A non-braking space can be written as \(space), where (Space) is the spacekey

A non-breaking hyphen as \+

Well, I must be doing something wrong. Here's the string I have in the Autonumber Format field of the Paragraph designer (without he quotes):

'S:Figure\ <n>.<n>< >< >< >< >\+<n+>< >'

The table string looks similar. My problem is that in cross references to tables and figures in the document, FrameMaker is still allowing a line break at the hyphen.

What can I do to correct this annoyance?

Thanks.

William,
I am using FM 7.0p578 on Windows XP; I do not see the same behavior that you do. While words hyphenate at the end of the line, if the figure number in the cross-ref. gets too close, the whole thing jumps to the next line. No break at the hyphen. Just out of curiosity, What does your cross-ref. definition look like?
