This might challenge the best of the Frame experts.

I'm building a book with both IG (left page) and PG (right page) format in each chapter. I've used the same chapter template to produce the entire book. I have created a Paragraph Tag for the IG Map Title and I have it set to always show on the "top of left page".

Here's my situation:

When I turn off the IG conditional text, all the PG pages fall in line (no problems). When I turn on the IG conditional text, I'm expecting the first IG page to display on the first left page. However, in some files (not all files) it displays on the 4th page when printing 2-sided. Now, if I put a carriage return at the bottom of page one (kicks the carriage return to the next page) and then backspace, now the IG page backs up to page 2 (where it should be according to the "top of left page" setting on the paragraph tag).

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help.

Are your IG and PG text in different flows?

No, the IG and PG pages are both in Flow A.

Is that going to make a big difference? If so, is there an easy way to change the IG or PG pages to another Flow without messing up the entire book?

After you change conditions, save the file.

Make sure you turn on View Text Symbols and Borders.

I don't really understand. What is a PG page? What is an IG page? You can set up FrameMaker to create a two-sided document, in which case a Left and a Right master page are created. Are you talking about the left and right master pages?

What role are conditions playing in this?

No, you shouldn't put them into different flows. When things are in different flows and use conditional text, sometimes you get extra blank lines or even pages, so I thought that could be the cause of the problem. But if Sean's suggestion of saving after changing conditions doesn't help, I'm stumped.

Thanks!

I guess I just need to live with it. Just seems strange to me that in one file it works and in another file it doesn't. As with most things, it is probably a simple setting somewhere that I can't locate.

I still think FrameMaker is a great publishing tool that is dependable and flexible.
