Updating the mouse driver has always worked for me and my co-workers, so I'm
not sure what you'd do.

I have a situation where the scrolling function doesn't work in Framemaker 6.0. It works in all other programs, and I've tried different mice with the exact same result. The XP patch has been installed, and there are no available driver updates within XP.

Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, how was it resolved? Thanks!

Try searching the Adobe tech support Knowledgebase, as there used to be an issue with scroll wheels and FM, but I don't recall the cause/fix just now.

I say "try searching" because the FM section of the Knowledgebase seems to be somewhat "challenged" when it comes to usability, but with some diligent effort you'll probably get some results.

Thank you both for the suggestions. I've searched FM knowledgebase, and have seen issues with certain mice with 5.5, but I've tried different mice to no avail so far. Thanks again.

On the Frameusers list people have said that installing the latest Microsoft Intellipoint driver from the MS website worked, but that you first had to uninstall the current Intellipoint s/w before you install, otherwise the new one didn't work.

The Frameusers lists has searchable archives at http://www.frameusers.com <http://www.frameusers.com>

Out of curiosity...

What kinds of mice have you tried?

Do they all use a scroll wheel (like Microsoft's), or have you also tried a mouse with "ScrollPoint," technology like IBM uses?

In your research, have you encountered the lovely problem of "Internal Error blah blah FrameMaker must quit, please report this problem..." after dragging an FM scroll bar to a new location, or is your scrolling problem simply that the scroller doesn't work?

I'm only asking because I have that "internal error" problem under Win2k and I reckon the ultimate source of both our problems is the same--FrameMaker 6 (probably all versions, actually) fundamentally does not know how to deal with modern, scrolling mice. When FM functions correctly with a mouse, my guess is that it's more because of a happy coincidence than because of programming savvy and good drivers.

I had this problem with my Logitech Trackman Marble, but downloading and installing the latest Logitech driver fixed it, so I guess maybe everyone who uses Frame should switch to Logitech pointing devices.

Can also confirm that since installing latest Logitech MouseWare 9.61 scrolling works ok under Win2k and WinXP (it does scroll and not crash), but want to add one hint: On the "Buttons" page of the "Mouse Properties" (Control Panel) there is a checkbox "Use MS Office Compatible Scroll Only". If this is checked, problems as described in this thread may still happen.

To add to Uwe's comments, it also works fine on a Mac in either OS X or Classic.

I greatly appreciate all the responses. Thusfar, the issue remains. I tried a Logitech TrackMan Marble+, even though the user is a mouse person, and it still didn't work (once again, everything scrolls but Framemaker), but was unable to find any updated drivers on the Logitech site. Unlike most sites, it's seems pretty weak on supporting older hardware. I might go look at mice today, and see if there are any groovy-cool new XP types, to see if those drivers make any difference whatsoever. Thanks again.

I had the same problem. Do a search in the FrameMaker forum for "wheel-mouse" and you might find your answer. Sorry, don't know how to post a link to another topic.

Hello Danial,

I know its been ages since you have posted.. I hope you are still using Framemaker. If you still face the issue with the Framemaker Scroll, below is the fix.

Download the free mouse utility by name "Katmouse".

double click on the file to activate it.

Now you would be able to scroll in any version of Framemaker.

Cheers and Best Regards,
Karthik
