when you set motion blur to 180 and you are working in 29.97, it looks like the interlaced output is more like the 90 setting. Double frame rate reduces the motion blur effect by half.

I did some tests, and interlacing results in the same motion blur amount as rendering your 30 fps project at 60 fps, which makes sense.

However, it would be nice if AE automatically adjusted from your 30p view you have on your computer screen to match the motion blur level when you interlace 60i it for output.

I guess the only way to match what you see when you are working on your project in AE is to double the motion blur number on output?

I think the end result is the same. Nobody watches just one field of normal NTSC interlaced video. A viewer always sees both fields, therefore the position and blur of two fields equals what you see on your progressive computer monitor.

I'm not sure. In 30p I see a blur of about 15 pixels, and in 60p I see a blur of about 7 pixels, with the same shutter settings. Eventhough I see twice as many images of the shorter blur, overall the blur sensation remains half.

O.k. it's a little anal, but just a thought. Otherwise I wish motion blur would look a little more sexy at higher shutter values. Do you know of any plugins that can replace AE motionblur settings?

We had the same problem with SmoothKit (the plugin within it called Frame Accumulate) for which that exact same problem has been fixed and we will post fix when back from IBC. In essence AE especially when you have internally generated graphics like text does not know that it will be field rendered when in interactive display mode, so you have to double the mb values to see the real effect and then reset it OR work at 59.94 I guess.

O.k. so I'm not crazy. I noticed a difference years ago, but never really thought to investigate it. Doubling the shutter will have to do for now. . .

Does the Reelsmart Motion blur work on individually moving layers or just on a complete comp/movie?

Thaks,
Felix
