Can the latest version of AE import WMV files? I hav ea 150 mb wmv file that needs to be broken down into 10 pieces. I have AE 4.1 (mac) and can't import wmv files. Does the newest version allow it? If not, does anyone know if Premiere can do it? TIA

The only possible way would be to use a screen capture tool (like Snapz Pro X) to record the WiMP window into a Quicktime movie.

A new version is coming soon that has a low enough processor overhead to record at 30fps at full NTSC.

Sorta like using Audio Hijack to capture RealAudio streams. WMV is a view only format.

Actually, here is a tutorial I found (havent tried it) on how to do it with GraphEdit and convert the WMV to an avi.

Try it out and let me know if it works

(of course, if you didn't want to you use divx you could choose another codec)

Also, here's a little free utility that supposedly will convert wmvs to avi.

You would have to convert it to another format (if you are using divx kick
that bitrate way up to preserve data) or you could frame serve directly out
of Windows media Player if I'm not mistaken. That sorta makes WMP a decoder
for AE.

Import your clip into Premiere and export it in your desired format.

Any idea if AE 6.0 will support WMV file format? It sure would make things easier at home. Now all I have to do is figure out how many couch cushions to dive under to get the $1K to upgrade my piddly AE Base 5.0 to AE Pro. :P

Try this... not sure if it works with non-wmv9 files but it's worth a shot.
