I am having problems with my Web site. I have been uploading PowerPoint presentations to the site using FrontPage 2003. This has been a complex process, and it has frequently been impossible to do the uploads efficiently.

I have seen PowerPoint presentations on the Web in PDF form. They seem to work well, but I wonder if the PDF versions have some of the important features present in the native PowerPoint presentations.

Most important to me is the ability to find a particular slide in the list on the left-hand side of the screen and click on that slide to open it. I realize that each slide is on a separate page in a PDF document, but I wonder if the left-hand-column list would be automatically generated or (if not) what steps would be needed to generate it.

Thanks for your good advice.

You have 'PAges' Tab in Acrobat on the left side. Open the PDF file and then open the pages TAB. You will see all the seperate pages in the PDF. Click on the pages to go to them directly just like in PPT. Hope this helps.

You may be able to get the list with bookmarks in your WORD or PPT file. Not too sure about PPT. You would have to use the PDF Maker to get the bookmarks or add them in Acrobat. The PDF version of the Acrobat manual is done this way (look in the help subfolder).

Yes, I see the Pages Tab. What I was hoping for was a way to make a list, as opposed to the thumbnails on the Pages Tab. This would be more efficient, since the details of the thumbnails are hard to see. I think I have seen this List arrangement in PDF documents from time to time, especially with computer motherboard manuals that are in PDF format.

Thanks very much.

Yes, I think that Bookmarks is the way to solve this problem.

I do not own Acrobat yet. How are the Bookmarks generated? Is this tedious?

It is possible to Wrap a bookmark so that it takes up more than one line in Bookmarks? This would be useful.

Thanks for your help.

If you use the pdfMaker button, I believe the bookmarks are generated from headings in PPT slides.

If your PPT has transitions in it, and you want to retain them in the pdf, you must use the pdfMaker button in PPT to make your pdf. I believe the default preferences found under Edit, Preferences, Full Screen and also the Convert to Pdf, PPT are good as is.

If you don't use the PdfMaker button but File, Print, Adobe pdf, after making the pdf, click the left hand bookmark tab to open the pane. Take the select tool and drag across what you want bookmarked on the slide, then click the "new bookmark" icon in the left-hand pane to create a bookmark. There is an option to wrap long names.
If you want a particular bookmark a color, you can by selecting it and right clicking and choosing Properties.

Hope this helps.
