Does anyone have any idea what may be going on?

What specifically are you trying to do?

Thanks for replying.
According to the Acrobat 5 help file, "Using the touchup object tool, you can select a graphic object in a PDF document and move it to a new location, edit it using the touchup object tool task features, or take it into Photoshop, Illustrator, or other application directly from the PDF document, and edit it." The Acrobat 5 touchup object tool was a black arrow, looking like the object select tool in Acrobat 6, but I cannot get the object select tool to select anything but links.
In the Acrobat Support Knowledgebase, Document 1001358WB says:
"The TouchUp Object tool lets you move a graphic object to a new location, edit it using the TouchUp Object tool task features, or take it into Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, or another application that can read and write PDF files. ...
"[T]he ... Graphics selection tools in Acrobat let you select a portion of a PDF and copy it to the clipboard. Once the content is copied to the clipboard, you can paste it into another application."
That's a good description of what I'd like to be able to do.

In Acrobat Pro you may need to right click on a toolbar to select
Advanced Editing.

The touchup-object tool was/is available in version 6, version 5 and version 4 and perhaps even version 3 and 2.
This tool is used to edit/touchup images inside a pdf file.
