No, you don't need to specify anything. You will want to use the Adobe Customization Wizard 8 to create a transform.

The version 8 doc isn't published yet. All of the command line parameters are the same, and there aren't any patches yet, so it's a simplified version of the 7 doc.

So I cannot install a patched admin 7.0.9 install over a existing 7.0 client install? I've got to uninstall the client 7.0 first? Does this apply for an upgrade to 8.0? Will I need to uninstall any 7.x clients first before installing 8.0?

Well, you can do the admin install point, but you would have to pull out the installed version first, before deploying the patched aip.

If you do decide to do the aip, only patch to 7.0.8, then do another push of just the 7.0.9 patch to the client machines.

I'm having some issues in bringing my clients from 7.0 Pro up to 7.0.9
Pro.

What's the issue?

I'm having some issues in bringing my clients from 7.0 Pro up to 7.0.9 Pro. I'm thinking it might be easier to apply the 7.0.5, 7.0.7 and 7.0.8 patches to my base, 7.0 install and then re-install 7.0.9 over my current 7.0 clients. Has anyone done this before?

No, you can't apply a patched version over the top of an installed version. The installer will go in to repair mode (Repair, Modify or Remove).

You don't need to remove 7 before installing 8. The default behavior is to remove any previous version of Acrobat 6 or 7.

Oh, that's even better. I was just checking out a document on your web site (333223) that shows the default behavior when you install 8 over, say 7. It seems to show that if I were to install 8 on a machine that had 7 on it, the default would be "Recommended Auto Removal". Will I need to specify something in the command-line to ensure it removes 7 and doesn't need a user ok?

Finally, can you direct me to a document for version 8 Pro that is similar to the one for 7 (330817?)

Thanks for the help on this one!

I was successful in getting a client from 7.0 to 7.0.5. I then attempted to apply the 7.0.7 update to the install using

msiexec /p Acro707.msp REINSTALLMODE=omus REINSTALL=all REBOOT=REALLYSUPPRESS /qn /l*v c:\aa707.log

It failed with a 1603 error and the log file revealed

Product: Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional -- Error 1406.Could not write value ThreadingModel to key \Software\Classes\CLSID\{06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3}\InprocServer32. System error .

Now I ran the update with Domain Admin permissions and sure as heck don't want to have to tweak the registry permissions on 200 machines to apply this update. I thought if I could just create an admin install of Pro 7.0 and then patch it with the everything to bring it up to 7.0.9 I could then re-install this fully-patched new install over the existing ones.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.
