create a document. i go to print. i select pdf writer. i get message printer isn't installed. but, it is in the list of printers when i go to printer in control panel. when i go to install a printer, you can only install hardware. i can go to adobe 4- and select .wpd- and search and find, select the document i created and print it to pdf. i don't know which port to select for pdf writer and distiller.

reloaded acrobat 4. now, when i get e-mails for bankruptcy court website- that a document was filed in a case i am involved in, i open the e-mail, i click on the document number and instead of taking me to the page- where i can choose to click on the main document and then click on each of the attached exhibits in turn- and choose to save to disk or open there, the document just automatically opens or in one case didn't open and was timed out.

please help with each problem. thanks.

First thing can the PDFWriter print from other applications, test it in wordpad. Also try printing to the Acrobat Distiller since it produces nicer PDF files then the PDFWriter.

You could also try a print test from the printer properties in the START>SETTINGS>Printers menu. If that works, then it is the links. Do you have the Acrobat Distiller printer installed? If so, use it instead and forget the PDFWriter, which has been phased out.

thanks. when i printed to pdf writer i didn't get screen re what to name and save it. i may not have pdfwriter connected to the right port.
when i printed to pdf distiller- it opened in adobe on my screen- and then i could print it to my hp and save it.

but, when i click on a link, when i get an e-mail from bankruptcy court website- it opens the main document - or gets timed out- and may not let me open the exhibits. i used to click on the link- then see page with links to main document and links to exhibits and then i could click on the main document and/or exhibits and choose to save to disk. now, if i am able to open the document, i can then save it to disk. if it is a big document- a scanned document- i may get timed out. also, i don't get to see its detailed description to decide whether i wish to open it. also, i don't get to open related documents- such as exhibits. so, i want to set things up like i used to have them but i don't know how.
