Help! I'm using Windows XP and Office XP. I upgraded my Acrobat 5.0 to 5.0.5 and I was able to create a PDF from Word on that day by using PDFMaker icon in Word. Today, I can't create a PDF using either PDFMaker or printing to Distiller. Microsoft word just hangs when I try to do this. I end up closing Word by CTRL/ALT/DEL.

I haven't seen a solution to this anywhere in the forums....does anyone have a solution!!???

It sound like you have installed something else since your original update. Try to think through what you changed and start there.

I also use Win XP and Office XP. MS Word does not Hang, I just get the message: Acrobat Distiller has encountered a problem and needs to close. This is realy frustrating! Re-installing does not help at all, not even when you manually delete all acrobat stuff (this includes the registry). And I have downloaded the update as well but it does not help at all. Maybe you can try to run acrobat using windows 2000, it did not work for me though.

I have the same problem with Word hanging. The process works veeeeery sloooowly for a long time, then stops progressing. CPU is at 100% during the entire process. I let the last attempt run for about 15 hours before I finally killed it.

BTW, where is Adobe support? There are no replies on this thread since 2/8? Is this not a monitored forum?

No, it's a User to User forum. You have to call Adobe technical support if you need them.

I had the same problem with MS Word XP converting to PDF THis is how I fixed it. In the Word toolbar go over to Acrobat Go to Change conversion settings and then office. uncheck the Embed Tags in PDF. This will speed things up for you and keep you from locking up.

I did uncheck the Embed Tags in PDF and I still get printer error. Also have Adobe 5.05, WIN XP.

I solved the problem by installing Acrobat PDFWriter (it installs as a printer driver). From Word, I select the Acrobat PDFWriter as my printer. It creates the PDF file OK, but XP always gives me a "This document failed to print" error message. To clear that, I open the printer and delete the print job.

Word has insufficient memory..."

Wild guess: Try uninstalling fonts if you have quite a few installed.

At least one of the mini-apps included with Office (Org Chart) whines about
insufficient memory if you have more fonts installed than it's prepared to
cope with. 500 is all but guaranteed to provoke the problem, but it can
happen with fewer fonts. Try to get it down to 100 or so (as a test) and
see if that helps.
