Prepress department of a newspaper, testing the adoption of pdf. We receive lots of advertising in eps format made from several software’s.
In acrobat 5, when I make the command "edit object" with text, Illustrator 10 gives this error message:
"... contains PDF objects that have been reinterpreted. Missing type 1 fonts have been substituted with the default font. Fonts with foreign encodings have been re-encoded."
This happens only with .eps made from Freehand 10; no problems with similar docs from Illustrator 10 or CorelDraw 10.
The doc contains 1 TT, 1 OT and 1 T1 fonts, 1 picture and several vector objects.
The eps where made in the same PC, PDF made with Distiller with PRESS job option (nothing changed) in XP.
Thanks in advance for any reply.

What sort of edits would you be looking at, and have you looked at
what Acrobat already offers? I assume you have Pitstop too...?

Thanks for your reply. Yes, we also have PitStop, but we are learning how to work with it. The idea of using Illustrator as an editor is related with text, working on a column of text instead of a line by line like in acrobat. We also use glyphs like - á à â ã - that sometimes are difficult to change directly in Acrobat or PitStop.
But, if editing in Illustrator is a bonus, is a great, great one… when possible, is very helpful. I love it.
Also, if anyone knows a plug-in to replace a font in Acrobat please let me know.
Again, thanks.

What specific problems do you see using Acrobat with accented
characters - perhaps there is a simple solution.
Aandi Inston
No problem with the accented characters in Acrobat but Pitstop just refuse to work with them.

Serious changes to text should be avoided in PDF. If they are
unavoidable consider making a new PDF with the text block complete and
as required, then use Pitstop's tools to delete the old text block and
add the new. Worth a try.

Sounds like a good advice the use of a new fresh pdf to replace text columns.
Thanks for your time Aandi.
