When converting certain documents to PDF using Acrobat 5.05 from word97, the conversion process freezes at "printing"

In the printer folder, the job is being deleted.

This only happens with certain documents and there seems to be no obvious diffrences with the documents that work and the docs that don't

Could be font trouble. Go carefully through one of the offending Word docs and see if there are any fonts that shouldn't be there.

You could copy the Word doc and rename and then do "select all" on the copy doc and change everything to Times New Roman and see if that makes any difference.

Also.. I have tried this with the same documents on two different installations of Acrobat, and I still have the same problem. It does appear to be a formatting issue with the word doc's, but i cant find what

Have you tried reinstalling the Acrobat macro? My own personal system works maybe three or four times, then dies, and I have to reinstall.

I would recommend "Warn and continue" instead. Otherwise you will have no idea what font problems did or did not occur.

In Programs/Acrobat/Acrobat Distiller, in Job Options, Font tab -- you should see an option "When Embedding fails:" with a drop-down list. Choose "Ignore," then close Distiller. In Word, use PDFMaker to generate the PDF.

If it's a font problem, this should allow the job to complete even though the font might not be available. It will substitute some other font, if it can.

All,
I have been researching this problem and ran across a website describing the steps to follow in order to make a PDF from a Word 2000 doc. The first time I tried, it failed because the Print>Acrobat Distiller>Properties>Adobe PDF Settings dialog box had "Do not send fonts to Distiller" checked by default. I unchecked this box and it worked perfectly. Here is the web address: http://www.irc.gmu.edu/jobaids/PDF/word-pdf.asp <http://www.irc.gmu.edu/jobaids/PDF/word-pdf.asp>
Please give this a try and report back on your findings.

This just happened to me, and you have to make sure that Acrotray.exe is running in the background. The file is located in the Distillr folder of where Acrobat was installed (usually C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat x.x\Distllr). Double-click on the file (nothing will happen), and reload Word.

Hope this helps.
