Thank you in advance for any and all assistance. Acrobat has been working fine until a couple of days ago, now every time I try to make a pdf I get this message: "An unexpected error occurred. PDFMaker was unable to produce the Adobe PDF." I have uninstalled it and re-installed it twice and it still will not produce a PDF. Is there a windows update that causes an issue or is it just Adobe?

Try printing to the Adobe PDF printer and see if this works. If not, it is likely not PDF Maker that is the problem.

I have the same issue. I tried to repair the installation.. about 3 times. Every time I try to convert a word doc to a pdf, I get the same message.

Does anyone have any more insight??

Then that narrows the problem to PDF Maker. PDF Maker is simply a front-end that adds PDF Marks to the PS file produced by the Adobe PDF printer. Thus if the print process works, it is an issue with PDF Maker. I am assuming you are talking about WORD, but which version. It might be that you need to update your WORD.

Hello Bill, I am having the same problem as the other users above. I am running MS office 2003 (word 2003). It was working fine until last week. I'm running running the acrobat pro 8.1.2 as well. Please let me know if there is a fix for this PDFMaker.
Thanks,
Jimmy

I am having the above problem (running pro 8.1.2 and word 2003) and also getting the following error in Publisher 2003 "Adobe PDF PRinter is not bound to Adobe PDF port. Cannot proceed further. Kindly change the PDF Port to Adobe PDF POrt in the Adobe PDF PRinte Settings."
What is going on??

I am also having this problem. WORD 3003 SP3 and Adobe Pro 8.1. I have unsinstalled both. Reninstalled WORD and then Adobe. I have repaired Adobe. Still no PDF Maker files. Has anyone found the solution?

First try printing to the Adobe PDF printer as Bill suggested, if that creates a pdf continue with the following suggestion
In word go into the pdfmaker settings (via the Acrobat menu).
Disable all options and try using the pdfmaker again.
If it now works, enable each option and re-create the pdf.
Repeat this until you the pdf is no longer created and let us know which option it was.

Also tell us if it happens with all word documents or just the one doc.

I found that replacing the WORD normal.dot file cleared the problem.
Name the old normal.dot to normal.old. Copy normal.dot from another system and paste it in. Start WORD and enable the PDFMaker addin.
CLose WORD and start Adobe. Create PDF now worked.

Thanks Bill and de Siem for the information on this particular problem. Did what you suggested and it works via my copy of Word 2003 SP3 (Print to ADOBE PDF).
A couple of minor points:
(a): My version of Adobe 8.1.2. standard will translate any file from Word except .doc.
(b): The headings "ADOBE PDF" and "ACROBAT COMMENTS" although listed, do not provide a drop down menu. I have reloaded on at least two occasions recently.
Many thanks for all your help and any other advice you can offer on solving this problem.

Go to printers and go to Adobe PDF printer. Go to properties and click on ports. Adobe is somehow linked to Com1 or another port. Scroll down to Adobe PDF printer the one for documents not desktop. Check the button and apply. Problem solved.

Many thanks for your input. Problem still not solved. Button was already highlighted for "documents".
Still have the problem of not being able to activate "ADOBE PDF" and "ACROBAT COMMENTS" in Word.

Perhaps I need to upgrade to Word 2007.

Many thanks - Howard

I am having a problem with pdfmaker from Microsoft Word 2002 sp3 on Windows XP. The conversion process starts, Acrobat Standard 8.1.3 opens--no document. I tried converting from acrobat and get the message. Cannot convert correct error and repeat. What error?
The document is straight text though it was reviewed and returned by a person using Word Perfect. I tried accepting all revisions and copying the entire document to a new document. Same result.
I checked printers/ports and it looks fine. It was working fine until I got the last update.

I am having a problem when trying to make a PDF from Microsoft Excel 2003 and 2007.
I got this message: "Missing PDFMaker files, Do you want to run the installer in repair mode?"
I tried that but nothing happens.
I have been running the repair installation and even uninstalled and installed Adobe once again.
I have some hyperlinks ind my Excel file that I have to be transfered to PDF. This is not possible when I use Print to PDF.
Does Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional support Office 2007 and Vista?

Hi everyone
I am having the same problem as all users above. I am running MS office 2003 on Windows Vista. It was working fine until a few weeks ago. I've re installed Acrobat 8.1.3 and it didn't work. I've installed Acrobat pro 9 and I got all messages users already mentioned, I've tried to re-install adobe acrobat and applied all suggestions (Bill and Steve). This time the message was "Adobe PDF printer failed to create the PDF file" so I still can not get the PDF format of any word, excel, power point or publisher document. However, I didn't have any problems with outlook and it works perfectly.
As I said, a few weeks ago I haven't have any problem with Adobe pdfmaker but it seams that we all got same problems at pretty much the same time so what else to think but that some windows updates conflict with the Adobe acrobat. I really hope that someone will come up with some solution soon, this is so frustrating.

Cheers
Jessica

Suddenly (this week) my AA 8 PDF Maker was not working with MS Office 2007. AA 8 would convert any file that was not Office related to PDF format, so I concluded the problem was Office related. I finally came upon what fixed my problem, I hadn't 'personalized' the MS Word program. You do that by clicking on the drop down menu (upper left corner)> then click on 'Word Options' and type in your name under 'personalize your copy of MS Office'. Works like a charm now! BTW I also uninstalled the PDF converter that MS offered as an add on. I don't know if that conflicts with AA 8 or not.

The Convert to PDF button in Outlook 2007 suddenly failed to work. The conversion process starts, but ends with a "failed" message. PDF Maker is working in Word and Excel. Any ideas would be appreciated.

How do I get older versions of Acrobat Distiller, which worked on Win95 through WinXP, to work on a new computer having Vista Premium 32-bit w/SP1? What I get upon Distiller being launched is "divide by zero or overflow".

Hi There,

I am using Microsoft word 2007 and I am recently getting this message:
"Unexpected error occured" PDFMaker was unable to produce the adobe PDF.

I have also checked my ADobe PDF printer, and the Document adobe is checked off. Still nothing works.

I think I figured out the problem. Worked for me anyway! What you need to do is a combination of some of the earlier suggestions:

1. Open up the Printers dialog. Double click on the Adobe PDF printer. In the printer job window that pops up, click on Printer->Cancel All Documents. This is necessary in order to change the printer properties in subsequent steps.

2. Click on Printer->Properties. Then click on the Ports tab. Scroll down to the bottom of the port list and select "Documents\*.pdf Adobe PDF Port".

3. Now click on the Advanced tab. Select "Print directly to the printer". Click "OK" at the bottom of the dialog.

The above steps are for Windows Vista, but it shouldn't be much different for Windows XP.

PDFMaker should now be ready to go.
