I'm using Microsoft Office Word 2007 and Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended (I think on Windows XP).

If I have a word document with a working hyperlink when I convert it to PDF (using the Acrobat button in Word)I end up with a working hyperlink in the pdf file but it is missing the first word. For example :

in Word the hyperlinked phrase will be http:/tinyurl.com/MarinaBloj but in the pdf version it will be :/tinyurl.com/MarinaBloj

or

in Word the hypelinked phrase will be "Sensitivity to luminance and chromaticity gradients in a complex scene." but in the pdf version it will be " to luminance and chromaticity gradients in a complex scene." with an extra blank space.

worse, if in the word it is a single word, say "PDF" then all you get in the created pdf document is " " i.e. a blank space that is actually is a hyperlink (you can see the corresponding address if you hover the mouse).

Can you post a sample Word document that demonstrates the problem?

This forum does not allow uploading of files.
You can try uploading them to <http://share.acrobat.com> and providing a link to the attached documents here.

I see the problem in your files, but when I convert the same files using my Acrobat Pro 9, Word 2007 SP1 - it looks correct and the first word of every link is intact.

Are you using the default options to convert?

I think so, I have not changed anything and just used the button that appears on the Word ribbon. What settings did you use?

You need to enter the Adobe menu on the toolbar and set the preferences for PDF Maker. In those preferences should be the option to convert the links to the PDF file. Of course, they have to be proper links in WORD. Otherwise, you can simply add the links correctly in the PDF directly.

I am using the default settings too. This is strange. Can you try printing to a physical printer or Adobe PDF printer from Word and see if you get correct results?

I do not think this is the problem as it can produce working links but in the PDF version the first word is missing. Have a look at the examples I uploaded. Thanks.

Hi Abigyan,

Are you using "Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 Extended"? Will try the printer option. Thanks.

Abhigyan, the printing to Adobe Printer works fine! So I can use that work-around but it still does not explain why it does not work from the Word ribbon. Any other thoughts on how to fix it? Many thanks for your time and help. Marina

I am also on Acrobat 9 Pro extended and yes, on printing to ADobe PDF Printer, you'll lose the hyperlinks.

One shot in the wild, is your Office copy upto date? Mine is
Word 2007 (12.0.6331.5000) SP1 MSO (12.0.6320.5000)

Mine is the same except for the service pack so I'll try to install that.

I am experiencing the exact problem...hyperlinks work after conversion
from Word to pdf however first word is missing. I can only reproduce
the problem on one computer. Other computers I have tried it on do
not have that problem. Here is a work around i found....You can
select the entire document (Ctrl + Shift + End from the beginning),
then go to "Create PDF". Go into Options and select the "Selection"
option. Then proceed to convert the document. It's a workaround but
I'd like to know what the cause of the problem is.

Thanks Anthony! Your work-around has fixed the problem. For information my machine is a TOSHIBA Tecra A9. Marina
