Error in PDFX:4 2007.joboptions:
/CheckCompliance out of range/

That's the error message I receive when I try to add x4:2007 jobobtions into Destiller
Printing to PDF in Indesign CS3 (standalone) works but if I open Distiller, x4:2007 can not be found. An and import of that .joboprions file fails. I have tried to create a new x4:2007 file in Indesign and save it to a diffrent location with "save as". Importing into Distiller fails as well.

I have Adobe Acrobat 9 installed and work with Indesign CS3

Any advise is appreciated!
Thanks
Matt

Distiller 9.0 does not support PDF/X4.

I upgraded my work and home pcs from CS2 to CS4 and get the same error when I launch Distiller 9.0:

Acrobat Distiller 9.0
Started: Monday, December 01, 2008 at 18:42:54

Adobe PostScript software version: 3018.101
CID support library initialization completed.
Adobe PDF Settings file read error in PDFX4 2008.joboptions:
/CheckCompliance out of range

Postscript files that Distiller 7.0 converted successfully now hang Distiller 9.0 at the "relocating files" stage.

When you say Distiller 9.0 does not support PDF/X4, then why is it looking for it and how can we get rid of it?

Thanks,

Shawn

PDF/X4 (or to be specific the draft version of it) is supported by the native PDF export routine within Illustrator CS3/4 and InDesign CS3/4, but Distiller does not yet have the functionality to understand some of the compliance checks within the .joboptions file. PDF/X4 is a very different beast to the previous /X versions, with things like layers being stored in a whole new way and some quite complicated checks on rich content and color spaces.

You can therefore make a PDF/X4 file directly from Illustrator or InDesign, but cannot yet use the Postscript->Distiller route.

The Distiller error is annoying but you can simply ignore it (or remove the .joboptions file from the folder to silence it).
