Unable to find "Adobe PDF" resource files. "C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Documents\Adobe PDF 6.0\Settings\<garbage>.joboptions"
Searching for solutions gets little if any help. Here's what worked for me, where my problem involved Quicken. Note that Intuit products (maddeningly) don't use standard Windoze printer interface; there is no dialog where you can select printer and set options. Instead, you have to go to File -> Printer Setup to select a printer and set its parameters before printing a job.
After many attempts to find a solution, and while troubleshooting, I selected a different printer (a PostScript printer, dunno if that was significant) and printed a Quicken report. Then I selected Adobe PDF again. Problem cleared.
I don't know how Windoze interfaces work, but I suspect that somewhere a bogus memory address is being passed from one thread to another. It would sure be nice if somebody could track down this problem and provide a real explanation and solution! Does Adobe read these forums? Searching google groups demonstrates that many users are suffering from this problem.
The Fix
as posted at <http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/3163e.htm>
Error "Unable to locate. . ." occurs when you convert Word documents to PDF (Acrobat 6.0 on Windows)
Issue
When you try to convert a Microsoft Office document to a PDF document by choosing File > Create PDF > From File in Adobe Acrobat 6.0, Acrobat returns an error, "Unable to locate the following Adobe PDF settings file or other resources: [filepath]."
Solution: Refresh the conversion settings for Microsoft Office documents.
1. In Acrobat, choose Edit > Preferences.
2. Select Convert to PDF, select Microsoft Office, and then click Edit Settings.
4. Click OK to close the Adobe PDF Settings dialog box, and then click OK to close the Preferences dialog box.
5. Exit, and then restart Acrobat.
Additional Information
Corrupt conversion settings for Microsoft Office can cause errors in Acrobat 6.0 when converting Microsoft Office documents to PDF.
When you open the Adobe PDF Settings For Supported Documents dialog box for a particular file type in the preferences, Acrobat recreates the conversion settings for that file type.
