The documents we create are distributed all over the world and we have no control over the printers used to print them. Many of our users have non-PostScript printers and get lousy results when trying to print the documents. What can we do when we create our PDF files to avoid this problem?

PDFs should print just fine without PostScript printers -- the only time you need a PostScript printer driver is when you're creating the PDF through Distiller. I very frequently print PDF files using various PCL printers, with perfect results.

You might want to make sure your PDFs are compatible with earlier versions of Reader, and/or your users may need to update to the latest printer drivers.

(By the way, please don't user your browser's Refresh button to check for answers. This can cause your topic to post multiple times. Instead, click the Acrobat Windows link at the top or bottom of this page, and check the discussion list. The forum will flag your topic if there are any new messages. You can refresh the discussion list, however -- the best way is to press Ctrl+F5.)

Have you checked with these users to see if they can print other PDF
files fine? Users are notoriously bad at telling you such things. Is
it just yours, or all of them?

I can print the files fine on PostScript printers in my office. On non-PostScript printers in my office they are a mess.

As I mentioned in another repetition of this thread (no 'refresh' button, please!) these printers might need updated drivers. I print PDF files to various PCL and PostScript printers every day with no problem, so I would doubt that the simple fact that those printers are PostScript has anything to do with the problem.

Could PDF's "print as image" be causing this problem? Just a guess.
