I have 2 adobe printers enabled on my w2000 sp3 pc.
Acrobat distiller &
Acrobat PDFWriter
I have installed the full version on Adobe Acrobat 5 on my pc.
I open word and create a document.
I save my word document.
I print my document to the Acrobat distiller printer and then I am prompted to select the location and the filename of the output file.
I select c:\doc1.pdf and press enter.
It comes up with an error message which says "Printers folder" in the border and says that it is having a problem trying to save the doc1.pdf document to the desktop.
I haven't asked it to save to the desktop because we have a readonly desktop, but for some reason it still tries to save there .
It just gets stuck in the queue and then I have to delete it.
Is there a registry key that tells Adboe to creat the file on the desktop which i can maybe edit.
Any help will be very much appreciated.
just done a test myself, and according to the message, Distiller uses the 'all users' desktop ( as temporary space? )
"now printing to the Acrobat Distiller on C:\documents and settings\all users\desktop\*.pdf"
you are then prompted to enter the real filename that you want to create ...
(Right-click on the distiller printer choose properties> ports and add a new pdf port.)
But it gave exactly the same error but this time it said it can't create the document in "c:\"
Do I need to have anything running in the background like the acrotray that should run at start up.
I deleted it from startup so it doesn't open when the user logs in. Just a thought.
Keep em coming.
Also, yes, Acrotray is essential and should be running. Why did you
delete it?

This was to do with the Acrobat assistant running in the background.
I had stop it from running on a few machines to comply with a policy we had about nothing running at startup.
I re-enabled it and I was able to distill happily.
The exact path was C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 5.0\Distillr\AcroTray.exe
But thanks for all your help.

Jat
But this desktop build is only in a pilot phase and the next release will have acrotray running.
